In this report, ALIRT uses the term Med Mal to broadly cover both aspects of coverage. We note that the financial statements required to be filed quarterly with state insurance departments do not break out a separate “medical malpractice” line of business but rather lump all medical negligence claims – whether committed by individual practitioners or related to managed care operations more broadly – under the Medical Professional Liability rubric.
