Ted Cormier, Managing Principal
Ted is a founding member and managing Principal of ALIRT Insurance Research.
After a tour in the Air Force as an intelligence officer, Ted worked in the mutual fund industry, the artificial intelligence software business and was part of the founding group of investors in a small software development company focused on the banking industry.
In 1989, Ted joined Townsend & Schupp, a firm specializing in the financial analysis of life and property/casualty insurers for institutional clients. Ted began as a statutory financial analyst, where he authored several industry research studies and developed analytical products on the life, health and property and casualty industries. In 1992, Ted’s responsibilities shifted to managing the firms’ business development and marketing activities, and later he became engaged in introducing investment banking ideas to insurance markets.
Ted is a Political Science/Soviet Studies graduate of the College of the Holy Cross, and worked on his graduate degree in International Business and Economics at Clark University while enrolled in the United States Air Force ROTC through 1985. Ted is also a graduate of the Air Force’s Officer Training School, and is Series 6 and 63 certified.
Ted enjoys competitive sports and has designed, constructed and maintains an 18 hole frisbee golf course on his property. He lives with his wife and three children in northern Connecticut.
Dan Hausmann, CFA, Principal
Dan is a founding partner of ALIRT Insurance Research/Dowling Risk Analysis. Dan is primarily responsible for the development and delivery of the firm’s research efforts and client service, spearheading the management of all client projects and special reports. Dan is the chairman of ALIRT’s rating committee for life insurers and is in charge of the continual development of the firm’s insurance analytical models and services. Along with David Paul, Dan oversees the company’s research staff.
Prior to his involvement with ALIRT Insurance Research, Dan was the senior insurance analyst and assistant director of research at the Townsend & Schupp Company, a firm specializing in the financial analysis of life and property/casualty insurers for institutional clients. After joining T&S in 1991, Dan’s responsibilities evolved from statutory analyst, to include special project management, report and studies author, client services and business development.
Dan graduated magna cum laude with a BA in Economics from the College of the Holy Cross in 1991. Dan was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa and Omicron Delta Epsilon academic honor societies. He received his Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation in 1996.
Dan is an avid Red Sox fan and enjoys travel, hiking, and reading. He and his wife have two children live in northern Connecticut.
David Paul, Principal
David Paul has worked as an insurance industry research analyst since 1993, when he joined the Townsend & Schupp Company (T&S) as a specialist in the workers compensation market. He later expanded his expertise to the analysis of the life and health insurance industries. Prior to joining T&S, David worked for Industrial Health Care, where he established and managed a workers compensation loss control program, and for Training Implementation Services, where he crafting sales training programs for general agencies and insurance companies.
David joined ALIRT Insurance Research at its inception in 1999, and continued to build out the company’s life, property/casualty and health insurance company analytical models/services, as well as engage in client service and special project work delivery. Along with Dan Hausmann, David oversees the company’s research staff, manages internal IT initiatives and development projects, authors a number of the firm’s insurance industry research pieces, and is actively engaged in client service and business development.
David graduated with a BA in classical studies from Washington University, St. Louis where he was elected a member of the Phi Beta Kappa and Phi Alpha Theta academic honor societies.
David, a tennis player and musician, lives with his wife and two children in central Connecticut.
Darren Gill, Senior Analyst /Client Services
Darren began his insurance industry career at General Reinsurance Corporation where he was a Financial Analyst from 1987 to 1996 and an Account Manager in the Finite Reinsurance Risk area from 1996 to late 1999.
In 2000, Darren joined Dowling & Partners' Securities, LLC, an institutional, sell-side, insurance equity trading boutique, as a Statutory Analyst for property and casualty insurers. He joined ALIRT Insurance Research/Dowling Risk Analysis in early 2006.
Outside of his core analytical work on insurers, Darren’s responsibilities entail research preparation, client service, special project coordination, new research initiatives, graphical interface/construction and publishing.
Darren earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance in 1987 and a Masters in Business Administration in 1994 from The University of Connecticut.
Andrew Felder, Senior Analyst/Business Development
Andrew joined ALIRT Insurance Research/Dowling Risk Analysis in 2002. Andrew markets and sells ALIRT’s services and is also in charge of managing and coordinating the company’s data flow and architecture as well as the firm’s relationships with data vendors, software developers, and financial reporting entities/repositories. As a senior analyst, Andy’s duties also include analyzing the statutory statements of life, health, and p/c companies, as well as researching various macro level insurance topics.
Prior to joining ALIRT Andrew worked for Chase Enterprises, a commercial real estate management firm based in Hartford, CT. At Chase Enterprises his duties included cash flow analysis, commercial lease analysis, and construction project management.
Andrew graduated from Central Connecticut State University (CCSU) with a B.S. in finance in 2002. Andrew earned an MBA from CCSU in 2008.
Adam Morse, Senior Analyst/Client Services
Adam has been an analyst with ALIRT Insurance Research/Dowling Risk Analysis since 2006. Adam is responsible for gathering and analyzing insurance company statutory and GAAP financials, providing written summaries and analysis on individual statutory entities for clients, working with clients in the preparation of ad hoc research projects, and providing support for special research and data projects.
In 2004, Adam graduated from Central Connecticut State University with a B.S. in finance. Adam has passed Level I of the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Program.
Brandon Van Hoesen, Senior Analyst/Client Services
Brandon has worked with ALIRT Insurance Research since 2009. Besides his core analytical responsibilities, Brandon coordinates the distribution of annual and quarterly insurer financials throughout the firm. In addition, he is responsible for assuring the timely delivery of reports and analyses to ALIRT’s nationwide clients and assists in the preparation of ad hoc research and data projects.
In 2008, Brandon graduated from The University of Connecticut with a B.S. in Finance and Mathematics. Brandon has passed Level I of the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Program.
